New Year's Day Long Italian Lunch (Eketahuna, New Zealand): Clear straw yellow. Herbal lanolin notes. Great presence. Dry extract. Great length. Outstanding young wine with minerality. Phenols hide the 15% alcohol - impressive wine.

A dark golden color with bright edges, the nose reveals pineapple, peaches, papaya, green apples, orchard flowers, orange peel, and crushed stones. Rich oily texture on the palate with tropical fruit flavors of pineapple, mangoes, and hints of papaya on entry. The mid palate shows an acidic streak along with green apples, anise, and citric notes that lead on to the medium length mineral finish.. Silky texture on this full bodied white, it seems to need a few years in bottle to express itself fully.

Starting to transition into a more full lemon color. Nose is exceedingly round, like a ripe, juicy peach, with a little note of green apple and citrus. Palate goes completely in the other direction, with a very strong expression of minerality combined with a spicy, ginger twist. This is underpinned by acidity that, while still noticable, is starting to mellow and integrate more nicely. Finishes rapidly, but all-in-all a very solid wine from this perennially reliable producer.

Consumed over two nights and this definitely got better with lot's of air. Lemon, stone, and white pepper nose. Spicy palate-white pepper, a bit of lychee, stone, lemon, lemon rind, nice lingering finish. Young, fresh, food friendly.
