  • I bought three bottles of this 2006 Bourdy Rouge years ago. They were stored very well. They went directly by car from the Garagiste facility in Seattle to the temperature and humidity controlled Portland Wine Storage in Portland, Oregon.

I tried the first bottle a few months ago. It was spoiled and undrinkable.

Fortunately, the second bottle I am drinking now is excellent. It is very complex and evocative. Color is still ruby red with no bricking on rim. I can see how this wine can last decades. There is a spicy complex ginger pepper meaty fruity aroma. Taste is fruity and delicious with a lively tannin backbone and long finish.

Wondering now about my 3rd bottle of 2006 and my 2007s...

  • softer wine but still great with food, which is one of the main reasons wine is to be enjoyed. Like this grape, think it may be some form of gamay, and as long as you don't expect a profound revelation with it, it will always do you right during meal.

  • Very much like a cru beaujolais, but with some brett most notable early on. With time, the brett subsided but the wine started to taste old. Will hold two more bottles over next few years just out of curiosity.

  • Drank with a crew that had some familiarity with Bourdy's wines. This has held up well. Softer, loamy purple fruit. Delicate mouthfeel. Been told these can hold up to substantial aging, but I found this to be in a good drinking zone. I owned the bottle approx. 10 years and was happy that the wine rewarded the cellar patience. Food oriented, we had with grilled lamb "lollipops" over charcoal and that sure was a good match.
