First off, I am not familiar with pinotage. This may be my first tasting the varietal on its own.
That said, it pours a cloudy purple/ruby color. Rough bramble, rose and earth initially dominate the nose, but they soon recede behind more sophisticated blackberry and vanilla oak. A bit of alcohol cuts through as well.
Taste wise, I'm getting a decent amount of black berry, tobacco and leather. Medium bodied, the drying tannins tend to dominate the subtle acids. In the finish, I get hints of black berry jam, cherry and vanilla. Leaves my throat warm and my mouth splintery dry.
Good wine, probably better when paired with roasted meats and barbeque.

Medium bodied wine. A little bit sweet at the very begining but correcting sono. Notes of coffee and leather.
