Petroleum smell, musty and old. Gorgeous color, even in the candle light of Gusto in NYC. A surprise and a delight. Complex and memorable. I chose without any knowledge of the winemaker, but know the growing area. 92 points

deep amber color. nose of wet dog and apple juice. medium body. dry. i taste scotch whiskey, apple and pear juice. tasting like a madeira. a bit of an oddball, somewhat over the hill, some might like it, others won't.

The appeal of Damijan's wines is their distinctiveness--the clarity and intensity of flavors they deliver, on the edge of madarization, with a striking amber-apricot color, and nose that combines lightly-candied ginger, honey, pear, and light floral notes. Clean and lingering finish. This bottle opened with a slight medicinal sense hat faded to show Damijan at its peak. But the second day, it had crossed the line and shows more madarized than I like. The wine will hold, but I doubt it will improve. Drink up.

More oxidized, maderized notes than on previous bottles. Perhaps past its peak.
