(KALIMNA Bin 28 PENFOLDS Shiraz) 2010 Thank you to all who made 2009 another memorable and groundbreaking year at Garagiste - it is your support and interest that continues to churn our cogwheels of discovery. Without your passion and dedication, the circuitous travel down our long and winding wine road would be for naught. The privilege of holding your wine education and enjoyment in our hands is a responsibility we take very seriously and, for that, we give you our sincerest thank you. Here's to 2010 - - Jon Rimmerman ************************* Deal of the Year Dear Friends, As the new year beckons, our deal of 2009 is upon us. Taking everything into account - ageability, price/value and potential to excite (from a collector point of view), this bargain is unmatched. If you are looking for old-school Shiraz to lay-away for a decade or more, this wine represents the finest deal of the year. Certainly there were 2007 Cotes du Rhones or other fantastic bargains this year but they will not be around 20-25 years from now and this wine will. Not a wine for today (it is far too disjointed with nearly every element is in another corner of the room), the Kalimna Bin remains an homage to the 1960's and 1970's halcyon days of Penfolds - an era that produced a number of the finest vinous treasures ever produced. To understand the 2006 Kalimna Bin 28, one must forgive the ridiculously low price and treat it as a bottle of Hermitage to be placed in safe keeping for an important occasion a decade or two from now. Northern Rhone, Wendouree and 1960's Grange enthusiasts pay special attention here: VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as a throw-back that tosses caution to the wind (despite the great risk of alienating the bargain audience Penfolds has tried to cultivate for decades). The structure, low-level glycerol sweetness and rough and tumble presence of this wine are not for neophytes...but they are for serious collectors. ONE SHIPMENT ONLY at this price with perfect provenance FIRST COME FIRST SERVED up to 36/person until we run out 2006 Penfolds Kalimna Bin 28 Shiraz (JH94) Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Aus7455

Past it’s prime for sure. Flat. Lots of fruit. No tannins. Structure is gone.

At least 92. Still plenty of life left, based on the showing of this bottle. With GGCCC.

Black plum with slightly sweet spice, good weight and depth. Slightly fresher/ better than my previous bottle from last year.
