Outstanding bottle that has really benefited from the cellar time. Super herbal, leafy nose with some dark fruit behind it. Medium weight on the palate, which shows an amalgamation of plum, cassis, and tobacco that has excellent intensity and length. The fruit has just a faint hint of 2005 sweetness. The tannins aren’t completely melted, but are moving in that direction. A lovely wine that could pass as a slightly funky Bordeaux.

Via CV - medium deep maroon with mahogany accents - gorgeous, intense Loire nose, all the classic markers but no hint of green or reediness - loads of tobacco - mid-weight, mouth-filling has some fine, dry tannin, this still has room to run - v good depth of flavour, and certainly on the savoury side, this really wants a great food accompaniment. Lovely, classic rendition on Chinon.

Blackberries, mint, tobacco, lots of tannins and also barrel notes. A Cabernet Franc of a very good year, but as most of the best Chinon wines of this year, a bit too extracted.

This has been my best bottle yet - still 6 more to go! Wow, this wonderful Cabernet Franc has really truly developed in the last few years. Still very dark, almost black centre, which shows it’s still relatively youthful with plenty of life ahead. Nose of ripe blackberries, tar, ancient tobacco, cedar, five spice and, my favourite, old leather armchairs. Fabulous mouthfeel, with just the right amount of tannic grip, soft, rich, fruit powering through to the fore of wild forest black fruits. Hints of sweet, subtle, caramelised cider apples, black treacle, ripe mulberries and loganberries. Long lingering finish with the snap of lip smacking, yet lovely, balancing, acidity. This wine has plenty of life yet but think is not too far off reaching its zenith, in maybe the next 5+ years. One of finest CF’s I’ve had.

(Charles Joguet Chinon Clos du Chêne Vert) Very dark red violet color; appealing, roasted black fruit, mineral, charcoal, roasted pork nose; tasty, tight, structured, roasted black fruit, tart currant, mineral, tar, Canadian bacon palate; needs 4-5 years; medium-plus finish
