  • Lovely deep ruby color, turning garnet. Nose is dark, deep, smoky, mineral-laden, and cherry cough syrup. Although the bouquet is ever so pleasing, the otherworldly mouthfeel sets this wine apart. Its footprint is almost non-existent. The tannins are so soft and fine, it is as if the lightest of cashmere tippy-toed across the tongue, barely leaving an impression. Remarkably palate caressing! The flavors of cherry cola and allspice left the sweetest of memories.

  • Flickinger Customer Appreciation Tasting (Casino Club - Chicago IL): Walk-around tasting. Ultra concentration, great weight with lots of black fruit. Structure and fruit are now nearly in balance, so this wine is emerging into its peak drinking window, which I expect will last 20 years as this wine continues to evolve and improve further, 94-95 point potential.

  • Impressive and already quite approachable. Aromas are primary but so decadent and engaging -- black cherry cream, spice, toasted herbs and florals. Palate is surprisingly velvety with structure that is already softened and integrated with the fruit. Young, but at the very front end of a peak drinking window. Interesting data point for 2005 Grand Cru, which I would have expected to be more wound up and tight.

  • There's a lipstick, overtly de-stemmed characteristic to this wine that's not my preference but no faults.

  • A very tough wine to open, still got many years ahead.

Was quite expressive when first opened, notes of blackberries and rich dark fruit, with that Echezeaux spice and a touch of sweet spice. Revisited after 2 hours and was suddenly closed, back to "sleeping phase". Poured out a small glass to sample and everything went down a notch. The structure and depth is definitely there however was just not expressive. You can feel the wine is still very tightly coiled together.

after 3 hours, decanted, same tightness with a hint of cooked blueberries (in a good way). a tough cookie to open. Will wait for at least another 5-8 years before opening another bottle.

(Emmanuel Rouget Echezeaux) Medium dark cherry red color with pale meniscus; big, baked red fruit, tart cherry, cranberry nose; solid, tight, rich cherry, baked cherry palate with spice and depth, needs 8-10 years, but will be wonderful; medium-plus finish 94+ pts.
