Great lunch with Richard Juhlin as a suprise bottle. Unbelievable nose: coffee, dark chocolate, roast tones, almonds, the palate also shows some ripe yellow fruits, fantastic acidity from a mediocre vintage, long finish, hours after the food, at his peak from a perfect bottle, 96-97

Golden colour, some mousse but obviously fading. Beautiful mature nose with White mushroom, a little truffle and some hazelnut. Super concentration of fruit and impeccable length. Deep and complex, I thought this was a wonderful mature champagne with a real sense of place, certainly unique but not to everyone's taste

Deep golden, the mousse has virtually faded. There is masses of concentration from this blanc de noirs and a real melange of waxy old vine richness. Long custard cream and bitter cherry finish. This is not a wine to jump into when you have a little palate fatigue as it's quite a challenge trying to get to grips with the broad complexity, but very enjoyable and certainly has novelty and rarity value. I've had better champagne, but possibly not one that had such a sense of occasion.

Cambridge University / CellarTracker Dinner (Pembroke College, Cambridge): Hmmmm, Emperors New Clothes? The ecstatic moans around the room led me to believe we were in the presence of greatness (or an orgasmatron), but all I had in my glass was a flat champagne. Okay, the finish was long and it was all nice and toasty and yeasty and pungent but rarity doesn't necessarily make a great wine.
