Pale garnet. Perfumed red fruit, some tertiary complexity of sous-Bois and mushroom, smoke and clove from oak, some spice black tea. Developing. Dry, high acidity, med fine tannins, med+ alcohol, med body, med+ finish, but the acidity and alcohol stick out a bit.
Better than last bottle, but still not at the level I’d hoped. Interesting to compare this to the Sylvie Esmonin Gevrey Chambertin VV 2010 we had the previous night. This was nowhere near the same level. Less complexity and depth of flavour, and less balanced too.

Medium garnet. Clean nose, dark cherry, smoke, barnyard. Developing. Dry, high acidity, just about balanced by the fruit, fine medium tannins, medium body and alcohol, med+ finish. I’m really struggling to understand the 98 point score from Decanter (Bob Campbell) a few years ago. It’s clearly well made, quite elegant and restrained, but it’s not at that level and I’m struggling to find the purity of fruit. I don’t see this improving but I’ll give my second bottle a couple of years and try again then.

Coravin Sample Very muted and closed nose. Required a lot of air to start to open up, revealing developing Pinot Noir characteristics. I was expecting much more given the Decanter rating. Clearly is going through a dump phase. Will revisit in 12 months.

This wine grew on me as the evening progressed. Light to medium bodied, with a nice balance between the fruit and acidity. Dark cherry and plum with some peppery notes, with a restrained power. This is a wine to be savoured.

Possibly a bit past it. Soft very mature, a touch of Brett. Good but not special
