Tasted vis-a-vis the Monfortino 1995, and while they are of course very different, they are wines in the same style. Other comments on this wine as being a "blockbuster", I beg to differ, this is very much Mourvèdre, very much 2004. Extremely intense, concentrated core of red fruit, has herbal and mineral notes, it's vibrant, elegant, almost en danseuse in spite of the concentration. Will keep my other bottle at least five years. #Enomania#HSA&Musse

Jim's Retirement Party (Libertyville, IL): I've had great bottles, mediocre bottles, and flawed bottles of this wine, and tonight's was in the middle. Very rich, bold and brash, but less complex or layered at this age than I expected.

Dinner at MingHin (Chicago, IL): Probably the best bottle of this that I've had so far. Ripe (but not overripe) fruit on the nose; more red than black, but amply sweet. We're talking sweet red plums kind of deal, not cherries or other berries. Opulent and luscious, this is a very large-scaled wine on the palate, with good acidity and some sweetness from the fruit. Moderately earthy and funky (as all CdP is), but more clean than not and readily drinkable. I think the tannins still have some ways to go towards softening, but this is a fantastic bottle of wine (and of course, one of the few CdPs I bother with at all).

This is a monster, when served the wine seemed closed. Kept my portion to the next day in a small flask and the wine came out of its shell. Explosions of fruit and power. Really good but still too young or needs to be decanted 4 or 5 hours.

WCC Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blind Dinner (The Chef's Table in Café Capriccio, Albany, NY): [Double-decanted for one hour around 5pm.] Wow! Gorgeous nose black fruit and licorice. Expansive and rich. The complexity and length are stunning. My #1 WOTN. Group #3.
