D+0h: no deposit in the filter nor in the bottle, smells of elderberry D+2h: cherry red colour, on the rim ruby red, smells of smoke, elderberry and cherry, smooth in the mouth, medium body, has a little bit of residual sugar, in the mouth elderberry, cherry, a little bit of smoke and a little bit of acidity, in the aftertaste elderberry, cherry and acidity, good length (30sec), is best after D+2,5h, so I should have decanted it a bit longer, I was cautious because of its age, but perhaps the Malterdinger Spätburgunder in general ages slowly and thus needs a longer decant? That’s my last bottle of the 2012 vintage. I will try the 2013 in autumn this year (i.e. 2021), I will go for a full 4 hour decant then.

Not a super expressive nose but nice on the pallet, not overly long or complex but doing what it should do and for an 8 yr entry level superb!
