바롤로는 꽤 좋아하는 와인임에도 불구하고 큰 만족을 거둔 적이 많지 않다. 시음적기를 기다리기에는 애매한 가격대가 많아서 미리 좀 열었는데 그때마다 떫은 맛이 아쉬운 적이 많았다. 결론부터 말하자면 (물론 8년 정도 지나긴 했지만) 꽤 영빈 바롤로임에도 나름 성공적이었다.
코에서는 가장 먼저 표고 버섯을 찢었을때 나는 그런 버섯향이 먼저 났다. 이어서 감초 향도 느껴지는데 나는 이 감초향이 항상 민트향과 헷갈린다. 잘익은 붉은 과실(아마 딸기?) 향기가 나는데 이것도 매력적이다.
입에서는 정제된 산도와 함께 탄닌도 아직 완벽하다고 보기는 어렵지만 꽤나 부드럽게 풀려있다. 마치 향신료를 씹은듯한 스파이스 역시 나쁘지 않았다. 다만, 아직은 탄닌이 풀려있다고는 하지만 시음 적기의 아주 초입 정도에 가깝겠다.

Beautiful red berry, flowers and mineral nose, not as complex taste and maybe a little bit short on acidity but still very good. I thought it was at it's best on opening so judging from this bottle it's time to drink them over the next couple of years while the fruit and perfume is still there. It turned a bit to tertiary for my taste by the last drops.

This ruby-garnet colored Barolo has on the nose pronounced aromas of strawberries, raspberries, leather, menthol, cedar wood, little smoke. On the palate the flavors are similar to the nose and also pronounced with additional redcurrant and sour cherries. The acidity is high as well as the polished tannins are. The wine is medium(+) bodied with a very long finish. At this stage the wine is fruit driven and brings great joy. It's at the beginning of its drinking window with a long life ahead of it. Glass I used: Riedel Veritas New World Pinot Noir

Pale red nebbiolo color, lightening at the rim. Classic nose of cranberry, rose, and leathery earth. Starts very tight, grippy tannins seize the upper gums, suggesting this is still very young and requires a good decant if drinking soon. With all that grip it's still nicely balanced by fruit and ample acidity. Definitely benefits from time in the glass, as tannins start relaxing and fruit takes on a ripe, sweet, sour cherry profile. Six hours of open time isn't a stretch at all.
