Robert Mondavi Winery Masterclass Tasting (Hattenheim, Germany): Ripe lemon and lemon zest on the nose, also slightly buttery with caramel. The malolactic fermentation was halfway through, then stopped. Vanilla and subtle smoke hint at the barrel maturation. About 50% new French oak barrels. Fresh in the mouth with a pronounced acidity and a lean body. Quite elegant, but not too expressive. On the palate, citrus fruits dominate the flavour, especially lemon and grapefruit. The finish is of medium length. Solid, but nothing special - you pay for the name. [First published on DMueller.com.]

Inviting aromas, tropical, a little waxy, showing a whiff of buttery goodness. Elegant on the palate, mid-to-full bodied, very nice balance, with a fine cut, and lemon oil complexity to flavors that match the nose. Drinking nicely.

Mondavi smakk á Konsúlat hóteli (Konsúlat hótel, Hafnarstræti 17-19): Mjög ljós litur. Sítrus og ananas í nefi. Svo komu ristaðir brauðtónar ásamt smjöri og ferskjum. Frekar þunnt á tungunni. Ekki mikil sýra. Gott jafnvægi. Perur og hunang. Fínleg eik. Steinefni og jarðartónar. Þokkalegasta vín en vantar aðeins upp á persónuleikann í því til að verða gott eða virkilega gott.

Pale lemon colour. Medium (+) and developing nose with yellow apples, lemon, butter, smoke, oak, rosehip and toast. Medium (+) taste of yellow apples, lemon, butter, vanilla, popcorn and oak. Medium (+) long and dry finish. Medium acidity. Medium body. A good Napa Valley Chardonnay that lacks some complexity. Drink now. Goes well with cheeses.
