Cork came out intact (30 year old bottle!), and about a tablespoon of sediment (to be expected). Started cold, the flavours only emerged after the wine was warmed in the glass. Bricking has taken place (could have mistaken it for a Pinot Noir), oak has faded to nicely to give a pleasant woody aroma, blending nicely with the wine, which now exhibits the bouquet of fruit. Finishes with a surprise burst of heat from the alcohol, just slightly harsh in my opinion, but will definitely drink again if available.

(No Alc % reported) The wine was not decanted. Intitially from the bottle there was a note on the nose and palate which was bit musty but this quickly blew off. From the first glass I detected clear notes of pencil shavings on the nose and leather on the palate. From the second glass I detected a spice note (including cinnamon) and I was reminded of a Bourgogne wine but also reminded me of the spices from generic Indian food. I was certain that I detected notes of saffron notes with a hint of vanilla. Overall, I thought that the depth of spice and character that the wine showed this evening was indicative of a longer life span (perhaps not eternal but at least a few more years).

Intriguing and distinctive smoky aromas. Some earth and red fruit too.
Otherwise a fairly run of the mill older Bordeaux. Drink up.

Drinking well with some nice spicy cabernet fruit - probably not going to improve but still very enjoyable!
