"Simple" Midweek Dinner (La Barca) (La Barca, Goodman Arts Centre): This came a bit too late in the night for detailed notes, but I liked it quite a bit. The table was divided between new world and old world pinot guesses, with the slight sweetness to its cherry and red berry aromas on the nose just causing me to lean towards the former. It was quite attractive though. Same thing on the palate. There was a nice depth to it, with a fleshy, sappy feel to its red fruited flavours seasoned with bits of earthy spice and a little rubbery twang that more or less confirmed my new world guess. Nice velvety tannins too. However, what really threw us off was how fresh and vibrant this was, showing a surprising amount of litheness, especially for a 2003 Californian. Yummy stuff, if not exactly the most complex of wines at the moment. Still though, it was drinking quite nicely and probably has the chops to go on developing over the next few years.

This was a bit of a dissapointment for the $65 CDN I paid for it. Could be better in another year or two, but it didn't stack up against the 2001 Brewer Clifton Pinot I had just before it.

Beautiful Pinot. Cherry up front with good acid and a nice amount of oak to balance things out. Excellent balance. Fruit forward wine but crisp fruit not jammy, and like i said before balance is the key word here.

Stole the show in a night of great pinots. Very impressive wine. Lots of black and red raspberry. Velvety tannins. Bravo
