I don't want to call this new world but it isn't old. It's definitely fruitful in style and although there are some tertiary notes, it is still quite young. It still has some baby fat; plenty of life ahead. An elegant wine with modern nuances, not cloying or over-extracted. Very Enjoyable.

Still rich and fleshy. Far less advanced than I was expecting in terms of build. The expression was not all that interesting. A nice pleasing Syrah that has shed a lot of it's primary fruit notes. Might be interesting to see where this ends up when that fruit starts to shed it's density. An interesting look into Copain's past and an underrated vineyard.

A nice showing for this wine, with meaty plum and dark fruit qualities that follow through on the palate. Fine tannins and nice balance, with a medium+ finish.

Decanted 1/2 hour. To be matched w/ beef pot roast and garlic mashed potatoes. Still "tight" on the nose. Across the palate minerals, some fruit (blackberries?). Firm acidity. Extended, clean finish of black fruits and pepper. Should open w/ more time in the decanter. Drink or hold.

Leslie Fisher Hits the East Bay: 90 Ravenswood, Copain, Niepoort, etc.. (Rockridge, CA (Oakland)): Generously brought by Ken Z. This is in a beautiful place if you like a little age on your Syrah. The big fruit has settled down to show iron, olive tapenade, some cassis in the background along with some pepper/spice. Finish is very nice. this is really good!!!
