This has always been a favorite of ours, but the 2016 was a disappointment when I tasted it in July. Flash forward 5 months and what a difference. Honey and crisp green apples on the nose. Granny Smith apples, lemon and pears on the palate. Much better concentration than my previous tasting. Good acidity (not as crisp as I recall prior vintages, but still good). Moderate finish of citrus and a bit of spice. Not as good as prior vintages, but a very enjoyable wine for a Wednesday evening.

For years this has been my favorite village level Chablis. The 2016 is a disappointment, however. Nowhere near the minerality and crispness and the fruit is just a touch heavier. Overall it is a pleasant wine but not one with which to introduce friends to Chablis. Apparently they had to pick 3 to 4 days earlier than hoped and pick everything at once because of forecast storms. Hence the lack of concentration and depth. From what I have heard, the 2017 should be back to the level I have come to expect in this wine. But the 2016 is a pass IMO.

2016 Louis Michel AC and Premier Cru Chablis (Dig Wines, San Francisco): Light green. Pungent iodine nose. Green citrus, very earthy base. Brothy and longer than the Petit Chablis. A step up.
