Mid-golden yellow, intense honeysuckle and mushroom notes with that Riesling petrol. Just off-dry very rich body, acidity now fading just a little, smooth, fresh ripe peaches, mandarin, huge length and mineral finish. A beautiful wine but losing its precision now. Time to drink up and move onto a more recent vintage.

Pale gold, showing clear edges with an almost rusty hue in the centre. Complex, sweet, warm, butterscotch, slightly mushroomy smell. Very dry with a layered complex spicy, warm taste. Very long and satisfying length. Tasted directly in comparison with a Paul Blanck Grand Cru Riesling from Alsace, this stood up very well indeed. A very satisfying wine, and I don't think it's available now at anything like what I paid for it.

Typical of Heymann-Loewenstein but unusual for the Mosel, this is a modern, weighty, just off-dry Riesling which stuns in its complexity. Much more evolved than the last bottle from the case that we enjoyed a year ago. It's a distinctive warm golden colour with obvious body and layer upon layer of smells. Starting with a distinct kerosene and botrytis shitaake mushroom smell with some honeysuckle tone. The taste has a Bellini peach and citrus characteristic with some spiciness and slight nuttiness, great balanced acidity, minerality and long enduring finish. Superb.

(Heymann Lowenstein Schieferterrassen Riesling) #3; VaynerPAZZZ; COLOR-medium golden; NOSE-peach; a little like a balloon; sugar cane; hints of honey on the back-end; PALATE-this has a beautiful honey component; the alcohol is coming through on the back-end; very old vineyard with very low yields, so intense wines from this producer; a baked apple component with some acid in the middle; medium to full bodied; this is not doing it for me; a little disjointed and off balance; WS-88; GV-86

Kinda awkward, with an almost malolactic-y note. Unclear whether it was flawed or just disjointed and awkward.

Golden color, nice concentration... just a little bit of distraction from the alcohol but pretty yummy overall.
