Decanted thirty minutes. Tasted with four other traditional styled Brunellos from 2001. Quite dark toned sour cherry. Fresh fruit. Grip . Acid. Tannin. Balanced. Some elegance. Quite complete. Young but approachable. A favorite among our little tasting group. Showing really well. More than held its own in perhaps more heralded company. Bought on release and unmoved in the cellar these last 17 years. Will keep a decade at least.

Muddy red throughout. A nice balance of dark fruit and earth and leather. I prefer this to the 1995 which was funkier and earthier. Mild tannins and good length. Medium bodied and good with all of the varieties of seafood we ordered. I am developing an affection for older traditional Sangiovese.

Well made traditional Brunello that I have enjoyed on a number of occasions. Tonight's bottle drank very nicely. Soft with nice fruit on the palate and an elegant finish.

Clean nose of wood, suede and currant. Mild tannins lend some remaining structure (though acid is moderately low) and well integrated but mild flavors of plum, dark chocolate (maybe buttercream) and some mineral qualities make this an enjoyable if unchallenging wine. Enjoy with food. Drink now.

(BRUNELLO Canalicchio di Sopra) Friday Dear Friends, Some good wine for a Friday send-off. Have a nice weekend! 2005 Comte Armand Pommard Clos des Epeneaux - (WA94-96) STRICT LIMIT 6/person This wine may end-up as the longest lived wine of the 2005 vintage in the Cote de Beaune and even in the Cote de Nuits. It has a chance to rival some of the great classics of the 1920s and 1950s. Benjamin Laroux thinks it was crafted by aliens... 2001 Canalicchio di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino 5.0lt - 2001 Canalicchio di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino 3.0lt - There’s been a lot of controversy lately over Brunello and the modern influx of over-oaking and hot fermentations would make the forefathers of this region turn in their grave. Here’s a real Brunello, one that could last longer than you and I - if you are looking for a large format to open at your son or daughter’s wedding (that is, if they are getting married in 30 years), this is your wine - an absolutely gorgeous effort. This set is had bottled from the best material they had in 2001: 2001 Fontodi Flaccianello 27.0lt - They were going to make this 27 liter bottle (that is as big as a small room) the centerpiece of their tasting room - they gave it to us instead. Only available for shipping as a full pallet via refer truck - you must be able to accept pallet shipments. 2001 Henri Bonneau CdP Reserve de Celestins - STRICT LIMIT 6/person All have arrived with impeccable provenance directly from the source - they will be available for local pick up and shipping in 1-2 weeks (weather permitting - so far so good). Earthy and crusty; a bit of a musty element; cherry-raisen; integrated and layered; long sweet finish.
