  • Nerd juice. Lots of Brett here. Not sure whether or not this bottle was flawed. There was a slight effervescence which I assume would preserve the wine? Excessive aromas of olive, poop and spice blew off to reveal coffee, licorice and red fruit. Light on the palate with medium acid, strong/dry tannin and a good minerality. However it lacked complexity and perhaps a certain generosity? Paired nicely with a young pecorino cheese. I would like to try other Freisas and Mascarellos to see how they compare.

  • Lovely blue fruit, like sloes and slightly astringent, good acidity, high toned, very mineral. The unusual blue scented fruit goes very well with a steak, a maligned grape!

(apparently this is 'vivace nebbiolata' - re-fermented on the skins of Barolo nebbiolo grapes)
