Saturday hangout at Domaine (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. Fizzy red wine. Angular, with some natty-like qualities though none of the biological instability. Not pleasant with its astringency. Getting to some sort of weird Italian wine wasn't hard. The producer reveal was a bit of a disappointment.

Takes 30 minutes to blow off the fizz. Bouquet of cranberries and sour cherries. Quite tart on the palate, definitely a food friendly wine. Always glad, that this is part of my yearly Bartolo pack.

Visit to Bartolo Mascarello with Alan: This wine is mainly just sold in Italy (although Alan noted that the Australian and Japanese markets share 48 bottles). Alan recommended decanting their Freisas at least 45 minutes before consumption, to allow the frizzante to blow off. He also noted that the '14 has 3 gl/RS, which lends the wine a little sweetness. Sweet berry aromas on the nose, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries, some bramble. There is little spritz on palate. Wild berry flavours with good acidity and sleek tannins. It's slightly rustic but the sweet edge helps with this. A very interesting, nice wine.

Litt skjult rødfrukt for øyeblikket. Meget frisk, fin frukt om enn litt på den rustikke siden. Brukbar lengde. Ukjent farvann for meg dette - likte det men ingen tårer.
