  • Lighter style Rhône. Very nice

  • This GSM blend competes very well with its Rhone peers in both price and quality. It has been quite some time since my last visit to Tablas Creek. I think they have improved and have really nailed it with this bottle.

  • Surprising good compared to last time. Still fairly simple but a tad more subtlety than before, and showing that nice older school Rhone style. A good example of a basic wine that when well made and held for a little bit turns out well.

  • Pnp. Fine and silky with a real sense of elegance. Fully mature, lovely, and quite tasty.

  • This is a fantastic wine right now. After some time it blossoms, showing mint, dark chocolate, toasted cocoa nibs, a touch of dusty earth, raspberry, blackberry, licorice, currants, cedar, hints of dried herbs, spicebox, dried cranberry; but somehow there's almost an Amarone nose to it as well, which normally is a bad thing (cooked) for a wine like this but adds to its depth and complexity, just up to the line past which you wouldn't want it to go.

[Note: I'd stored this in an insulated box in otherwise good, but imperfect conditions in which the storage area air temperature has ranged from the mid-50s to low-70sF for the past four years. Thus, it had good daily temperature stability, but seasonal temperature range exposure and a higher than optimal cellar temperature, so it may be more aged than one stored at 55F steady. Yet it showed no bricking, no oxidation. I think this was a lucky pick on timing for this bottle. My notes from a few of years ago indicated satisfaction, but nothing really special.]
