This was beauty in a bottle - lovely in every way. It was still fresh and youthful, expressive, enticing on the nose and lovely on the palate with a lovely finish. Cherry fruit, earth, asian spice wrapped in a lovely sweetness. It reminded me of a Raphet Chambertin we enjoyed a few years back, but not as elegant. Clearly the WOTN.

A few wines with an out of towner (Cafe Bernard, Chicago IL): nose: dark and very aromatic nose from the get go with wafting tones of dark red cherries, earth, spices, dark red fruits and bits of dark red florals. It became more perfumed and lifting with air, but retained its dark red base
taste: silky medium body with medium+ acidity that is still showing itself to be young along with balanced tones of dark red fruits, spices, red florals, dark red berries and some hints of earth tones. Excellent depth that one would expect from a grand cru
overall: this was a lovely wine. Like some of the other 00s that I've had, this is very open to drink right now. While it doesn't seem like it will make old bones, there is certainly acidity there to carry it for a while

Sunday Brown Bag Tasting: 2000 Grand Cru Red Burgundy (Rich & Dana's): Faded garnet color with stewed, stemmy qualities that dominate the subtle red fruit notes lurking underneath.

Barnyardy opening with complexity of flavors, but no finish to speak of and thin uninteresting body. Not Grand Cru quality.
