  • Very good and modern in style. I guess I was just expecting more. Keep in mind that I’m not a huge fan of Chateauneuf-du-pape.

  • This wine was very special! I expected it to be overly extracted, but it managed to maintain light-footed elegance. Tiff and I agree that this is like a pegau reserve on steroids. Rich dark fruits, classic CdP funk, and velvet mouth feel. It also didn’t seem overly hot (which I often find on some of the special CdP cuvées)

In a really nice drinking spot.

  • This feels like an amped up version of the regular Pegau reservee.
Macerated black cherries , pipe tobacco and fig preserve notes, milk chocolate and caramel, smoked bacon and burnt sugar. These are the typical notes one would expect from a high-end Grenache. Grippy filigree tannins, high and balanced acidity, coated in layers of decadent dried fruit: milk chocolate covered cherry, fig and prunes.
While the wine is excellent and powerful it feels riper than needed and seems to have less depth, complexity and length than indicated by the intensity and power of its initial flavours. 95-96 points based on its current condition but can either improve or worsen with age.

  • Before we talk about the wine, let’s quickly and honestly talk about the label. I get the idea of sticking to very classic and historical looking labels but this label makes the wine looks like cheap mass production juice from the supermarket. I never get why some wineries don’t adjust their labels to a more “modern” look. I mean you don’t have to change everything, just try to make it look a bit more classy.
Now let’s head on to the wine itself. It was my third time trying it, two bottles were from my cellar, the third bottle a couple of years ago from a cellar of a friend of mine. What can I say - it’s a well made wine, but where the hell do some wine critics see the 100 points here?
The fruit feels super extracted - way to ripe in my opinion. Lots of rich notes of plum, dark cherry and ripe blackberries. Some dark pepper in the background. So far this wine is really fun. The thing I don’t like about this wine is the huge amount of sweet spicy notes. It makes the alcohol feel less powerful but it gives a crude feeling to the entire wine. Tannins are nicely integrated. Acidity is medium intense. Medium complexity and depth. Overall balance is ok. The finish is long and very savory - nice!
Not much tertiary notes yet, just a hint of mushrooms. I can’t really tell if it’s just too young and if it will become more beautiful in the future but it doesn’t really feel like it will come around at any time.
If tasted blind I would have guessed a medium to good quality Grenache from a warm vintage - maybe from Spain or the New World. (IG)

  • Expressive nose displaying decadent concentrated black fruit, blackberry liqueur, blackberry concentrated, licorice, smoke, dark spices and mineral. Exceptional concentration, layers upon layers of concentrated black fruit, silky and fluid, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a long concentrated black fruit driven finish with tobacco at the end. This is developing nicely.
