  • Medium to deep red. I last had this 2 years ago and it was significantly different today. Burnt rubber, tar, charcoal and very overripe on the nose with cassis and blackcurrant. Searing acidity on the palate, with lots of oaky and charred character, with overripe fruits, vanilla and wood. Not good.

  • For my dad's birthday at Sichuan Douhua, a venue with cuisine incredibly challenging to match with Burgundy. This is an ex domaine bottle. Opened 3 hours before dinner to breathe in the bottle. Dark red. The nose was iron and rust, with pepper and spice, with additional swirling the Gevrey minerality and soil emerged. This was complex enough on the nose without moving on to the palate! Moving on, it had good ripe cherries, some might say this wine is a little extracted, I would say its in perfect harmony and balance. There was good structure, great freshness and vibrancy, lovely fruit, some acidicty and tannin. The only drawback is the slightly short finish which also lacks too much complexity, but then again, we are drinking a village. This is a tremendous effort from Bernard Dugat. His village wines put some good 1er to the sword. If you can find it, buy it.
