Surprisingly reticent at the moment -- and powerful. Some tannins show up, but the main thing is dark fruit and earth (or is it some reduction, or both?). Enough disjoint to suggest holding the last bottle until 2019.

Good wine overall, though a bit basic and simple. A little grapey at first -- happily that blows off fairly quickly after double decant and it picks up some good Burgundian earthiness on the nose. Fruit very much in line with the "vintage character". Pleasing to drink now and should be good for many years. Try again in about a year.

Mt Tabor Fine Wines Red Burgundy Tasting (Mt Tabor Fine Wines): Gamey on the nose. Softer in the mouth but still assertive. Finishes strong. Legs. This wine is begging for a steak au poivre. To me this is a very masculine pinot... not the most nuanced kid in the ring, almost a brawler... but still a boxer. I liked this one better than anyone else did at the tasting.

The 2009 Domaine Buisson-Charles Meursaults at Scott Paul (Carlton, OR): Slightly spicy aromas, with soft, very rich fruit. The palate expresses earth and tart red fruit. Very soft and elegant without much complexity. Nice minerality and acidic backbone though. For me this is too tart and ripe on the finish and finishes nearly exactly like a young Oregon Pinot Noir. Nice acid throughout, though.
