Light red color that was just a bit tawny and had a slight amount of haze. Beautiful with numerous layers on the palate. The primary flavor was sour cherry with balanced acid and silky tannins. Every so often a burst of ripe strawberry or a layer of eucalyptus would appear. Long finish. Still refreshing at 11 years old. What a joy to drink!

It’s been two years now since Patty Green passed away and each bottle I’ve opened since causes me to pause. She was such a force and such a bright light. But her wines, crafted by my college classmate Jim Anderson, live on. This Balcombe is simply amazing. Fairly light in the glass with lovely dark cherry, cedar, and eucalyptus. Close to a whoa. The palate is balanced and precise, even close to a decade out. With a finish that lasts a couple of minutes, this gets a Whoa. thedrunkencyclist.com

Patty Green died a year and a half ago, and it still seems a bit surreal. I only met her on a couple of occasions, but each time I drink one of her wines, I think of her bubbly personality, her joy for life, and her hearty laugh. This wine, in some ways, reflects her: A solid Willamette wine with good fruit, impressive acidity, and a solid level of intrigue. I have a few bottles to go, and I look forward to thinking about Patty with every one. thedrunkencyclist.com

I have been sick for a few weeks, so I did not pop a bottle of Patty’s wine when I heard of her premature passing. I am still sick, but I figured enough was enough. This wine opened with an odd odor, but that blew off with a bit of time. When it did, good cherry flavors with touches of earth, but there seems to be a little VA on the backend here—I am hoping it is just bottle variations I have six bottles left.
