It certainly is hot, and spicy, but I don't think the alcohol heat (which I am typically a little over sensative to) is the problem here. I think the the fruit is just really over ripe. It isn't tasty, juicy, jammy fruit. Its sorta burnt raisny fruit.
That being said, this is a pretty good wine. The oak is apparent and welcome, tasty and in balance. Its got a nice mouthfeel, smooth texture and a good finish.

Massive, berry-driven wine, with some brambly earth and pepper, but in balance with the fruit. Some chewy tannins, but unfortunately you can tell the ABV is in the 16% range. It's hot, hot, hot. Time might improve this wine, should pair nicely with food. (FYI -- not a Zin lover, Zin fans seems to love this wine!)

15.9 % ABV. translucent dark garnet in the glass. Rather aromatic and a little different on the nose with baking spices but more like what i Would characterize as leaning a bit toward something more exotic like cardamom with a touch of mulberry. On occasion seems a bit heavily oaked with a strong vanilla note. Medium full bodied with fruit that tends a little more toward cherry than berry. Similar retonasal flavors to the nose. Perhaps a little rustic in texture. Not a bad Zin, although I am not of overly excited about it.

Did not make many notes, but this is a really nice Zinfandel with ripe fruits, some chocolate and soft tannin.
