This is the oldest Rocche dei Manzoni I've tried, and at first I was disappointed even after decanting for the usual 3-4h. I left the rest of the wine in the decanter overnight, and on day 2, it is *much* better. Pale red brick color in the glass, faint signs of age. The nose is smooth violets, vanilla, baking spices, maybe a hint of menthol and camphor in there too. The palate has raspberries, strawberries, still some earhy minerals, tannins (!) and tar in the smooth finish. Great complexity. This must have been a beast in its youth! Overall I'm quite pleased and glad I have more. 92/93 on Day 2. Day 1 was not worth scoring.

Big, yes, but very pure and fresh, too. Color reveals little age; this follows through on the nose and palate alike - this is 'just' in its preferred window. An elegant wine, and one that brings just as much enjoyment to smell as it does to drink. Medium-bodied, and packed with red fruits, sweet, fine tannins and a long finish. This is classy, this is memorable, this is perectly balanced. highly recommended
Double decanted 6 hrs prior to service, this got better with each successive glass; drink thru 2025. Served non-blind by a fellow CTer. Thank you, J&P!

From a bottle generously provided by K.A., our tasting group was treated to a double-blind offering of this wine. Deep garnet/brick, it sports an intense bouquet of dried berries, pipe tobacco, clove, cardamom and earth. Medium-to-full-bodied on the palate, it follows with similar flavors as for the nose, framed with fresh acidity, well-integrated alcohol (14%) and fully resolved tannins. Solid in the middle, the wine concludes long and smooth. Classic in quality and fully mature at this point, this gem should be at its best over the next 3-4 years. Drink now-2017.
