  • So I bought a cellar; 11/12/2022-12/31/2030: I opened this and tasted before taking to nonna tatta - our fantastic BYOB Italian spot in Fort Worth. It was delicious on PNP. Maraschino cherries, delicious red fruit, with leather undertones, resolves tannins. Also great a few hours later, but air did not help this wine. If you have them, drink up and don’t decant. A great Barolo experience.

  • Brank to Aria in NYC along with the 1999 Prapo. The 1990 absolutely blew it away. I've had many Prapo's of a few different vintages (about 5 of the 1999's). The 1990 was so elegant and well balanced. It did not drink like a 29 year old wine. If drank blind, I never would have guessed this was 9 years older. Paired beautifully with the plates we ordered. I wish I would have bought more when I had the chance. A stunner

  • Stored at 55 degrees, humidity controlled since release.
A lot of sediment upon decanting.
Nose tight at first but then shows lovely, classic mature Barolo leather, with a hint of roses and tar.
Needed half an hour to open up and come together, but then showed complexity, with dense, deep, fruit. Masculine, though not rough, with mature Barolo tannins.
A fine exemplar of a mature old-style Barolo, with surprisingly good fruit for its age of 26 years. Although still drinking very well, unlikely to improve and may have been better a year or so ago.
A good winter wine that would be a fine match for pappardelle pasta with wild boar and porcini sauce.

  • Wow, time flies... seven years since my last bottle. Sometimes the merit of a wine is judged by how quickly it disappears when there is other nice stuff open as well. This bottle certainly fits that bill. Resolved and open for business, this is drinking very well now. You can tell where this lies on the style (modern-ish) and vintage (riper) scales, but neither of them dominates in an offensive or distracting way. Just a nice, sexy, complex, and fun to drink wine.
