Northern Rhone night: Similar to the previous old Guigal Hermitages that I’ve tried; showed very youthfully with vibrant dark red fruit despite the integrated oak and resolved tannins. Charming, restrained wine. A little more rugged than the ‘93 Côte-Rôtie alongside so I preferred the latter, but it was an even split at the table for this flight.

This pours light garnet in the glass with some ruby toward the core. Light bricking. The nose begins quite closed focused on dark fruit with a whiff of vanilla. Over time it grudgingly opens up to show creosote, dried blueberry, black currant, black olive, peonies, and crushed granite. Never massively expressive but what is there is quite appealing and lovely. The palate is silky entering on blueberry with medium acid and medium minus tannin. The finish is moderate in length replaying much of the nose. All in all this is a lovely old bottle of Hermitage that did particularly well after a couple hours of air. Really nice stuff.

Surprisingly fruity after so many years. Good cork. Initially thought it was a fake but who would fake this?. Would not improve with further age so drink now

Hawker night at Caroline's: My contribution. Not the best showing for this today, too tannic and alcoholic.

Wine Tasted at Acker Auction (Ci Siamo - New York NY): Small pour, brief note. More earth than fruit, nicely charming, sneaky good length. Drink up.
