Community Tasting Notes (3)

  • {screwcap, 12%} Mid yellow, but not too dark. Browned apple and citrus nose; nearer to a mainland Clare/Eden riesling with that lemon detergent quality, than to a typical floral/musk Tassie offering. The palate still has a spritzy quality to it; more lively than overtly acidic, but the fruit is flattening our somewhat. It's medium-bodied at least, quite dry, and very riesling, with a nod to the polarising kerosene quality so often seen. The finish is just medium-length; overall I think this is at peak, pretty well.

  • {screwcap, 12%} A little development; mostly citrus and lanolin-like flavours; quick thick texture; sweet yellow fruits. Medium-bodied, nearer dry than off-dry; feels a bit in-between at the moment; not in th blaze of youth but hasn't got a lot of age about it. Fine to hold for another 5 years at least

  • Derwent & Coal Valley wineries; 4/20/2011-4/21/2011 (Hobart, Tasmania): {screwcap, 11.5%, A$26} Floral, chalky nose. This is barely off-dry (8-9g/l of RS) yet is loaded with acid to carry the sweetness. Between the chalk, musk and the acid, it weights in at medium-bodied at least, is quite assertive and almost extractive on the palate, but finishes even and long on the tongue. Pretty appealing wine all round; I haven’t got personal experience of this wine beyond about 6 years of age however; given its generosity now I’d be included to think it best before it turns ten.
