Ruby core with slight fading. Powerful fragrance. Deep liqueur-like red fruit, some game. Rich without being sweet, expansive and penetrating in the mouth. A stony finish cuts the richness, and there are fine tannins at the end. Excellent bottle that takes advantage of the vintage to offset the sometimes brutal structure of Corton. I can see its prime drinking window opening in 5 or 6 more years, but you could drink this now.

Barrel Tasting at Domaine des Croix (Beaune Burgundy): Barrel tasting at Domaine. The most dense of all wines tasted here. Meaty and powerful, I found the finish a bit inaccessible today. Others liked this more than I did.

McCarthy & Schiering 2009 Burgundy Tasting (Seattle Wine Storage): closed nose. full bodied and elegant - more rewarding on the palate. creamy mouthfeel, gentle tannins, creamy finish - like raspberry coulis. probably most interesting red of the night.
