The Knights Valley bottling @ Beringer was always a second thought. Unlike today, where this bottling is expensive and highly touted, 20 years ago Ed Sbragia went about making a superb, inexpensive bottling that rewards the patient. Without the hype, but blessed with the volcanic soil therein, these beauties take just as long as the Private Reserve bottling to show their all. Dark, smoky, richly expressive with coffee, cassis and black cherry notes, it is a joy to drink now--assuming excellent storage. Thank you Ed, for making the "runt of the litter" such a joy!

As per previous tasters this was much better than expected considering 1998 was a so so vintage in Northern California. Very savoury and an old world feel with not much fruit to speak of. Very enjoyable and better with food, bbq or a good piece of roast beef. This has definitely peaked and will not get any better so drink up and enjoy if you have any bottles in the cellar. A nice surprise for the price and vintage!

Hearty, cherry, deep color and flavor. Much better than expected. Had in basement since 2001 and glad I waited. Nothing better for me than an aged cab with nice steak on the grill.

From a Magnum. Better than I expected. Proper cabernet aromas and flavors, but rather muted and with soft tannins and low acidity. Probably just starting to decline in a magnum format. Nothing really wrong, but nothing to compliment.
