Zoom tasting with the wine group: Tasted blind. Medium ruby with bricking; moderately aromatic with slight funk, red fruits; palate is medium bodied, medium-plus acidity, fades through the midpalate; finish is short-plus. I think this might be a right bank Bordeaux, but honestly it seems to blend into generic old wine. Seems like it has some significant age on it. 87 On retaste, this gives me some bandaid/brett. Either really old or flawed. I’m going to mark this flawed, especially given that the host had opened another bottle recently and said this was off.

After an hour, lovely engaging nose of strawberries, cherries, violets, and earthy spices. Enchanting. Mid-weight palate of cherry and darker tones with a bit of tannin and spice emerging over good balance. Fascinating, delicious mouth filling Pinot.

Popped and poured, totally closed down at first, but the bright fruit on the nose suggested something good to come with some air. Revisited the glass an hour later, and the wine had unwound. Very pretty, with framboise, mineral, and dusty earth flavors delivered in a surprising dense package. Still plenty of tannic grip and not short on stuffing. Continued to evolve throughout the night. Drink with air or revisit in a year.

An off bottle, perhaps corked. Nothing to the last one I opened.
