Community Tasting Notes (5) Avg Score: 92.3 points

  • Tasted blind, this wine had a light yellow center and clear rims. The medium intensity nose showed lemons, apples, marzipan, and some white soil.

In the mouth, this wine was rich and ripe with great acidity lurking under the fruit. This is still too young and a bit primary but it has lots of promise.

I expect this will move up a couple points in 5 to 10 years.

  • Tasted blind, this wine had a light yellow color and clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose took several hours to open up but then showed apples, lemon, oyster shell, white chocolate, and macaroon.

This went through a number of phases as it aired and was clearly best at the end of the tasting which was 4 hours in. It was quite ripe with great acidity and length. This crisp wine needs 10 more years in the bottle and should last another decade after that. I suspect that my score should improve by a point or two in the future.

  • Coming after an amazing bottle of Vilmart Creation this wine just showed beautifully. Just now coming into its own this was a great bottle. Will keep for a long long time.

  • A Hot Streak: Dauvissat, Poyferre, Barton, Mortet, Grivot, Clos des Papes; 7/24/2005-8/3/2005: Gosh this is great Chablis, probably my best yet, I started ploughing though the case last Christmas and I'm not sure its going to last till next Yule. I've had a bit of his Foret from 1995 and good as that is, it's nothing next to this daddy of a Clos. Smelt like wet pebbles (Brighton beach on a rainy day), honeysuckle and membrillo and was an incredibly grown up mouthful of mineral, white peach, and lemongrass(?).Staggeringly broad and deep with a wonderful zesty citrus finish that keeps it coming with the stone and the honey. Beautifully balanced and fresh and all that Chablis should aspire to be. I must try and save one for 5 years time, but I'm not sure I will, especially as I can't touch his 1996 for a while.
