Nose of licorice and leather bound book cover. Mouth savory almost European style - dry, salted plums and gravy. Finish medium length but forgettable. Still excellent on the second day. Barely any sediment so I would say this was overly fined and consequently a bit light on tertiary characteristics.

Not much to add that hasn't already been said here. This wine does not appear to be past its peak though it doesn't appear to be going anywhere terribly interesting either. Very nice, but not life-changing. Terriffic with the beef cheeks, or any braised meats I'm sure.

I wish this wine had been as overwhelming as I anticipated. Instead, it was "whelming" if such a word even exists. While notes say its past its prime, nothing could be further from the truth. Plenty of upfront fruit, mostly in the candied cherry-cough lozenge variety. Spice on the nose, and some promise of stinky herbal dirty stuff.
Sadly, while a very, very good wine, this wine never reached into the "great" scale. With time, picked up traces of menthol, various mixes of grilled meats, and more herb. I imagine this is probably as good as charbono gets, so hats off to it. I have quite a few more bottles left and will enjoy them, and with braised beef cheeks this wine was absolutely perfect. But I think my admittedly over blown love affair with this varietal has reached its zenith.

Rather tertiary. Good balance with some sweet extract and resolved tannins. Drink up, still delicious.

ruby red, in color. blueberry, cherry, on the nose. black cherry, spice, mineral, saline, bitter chocolate, on the palate. medium acid, on the finish.
