  I would definitely put this in the drink soon phase, but it was still alive and really quite nice showing some aged forest floor characteristics. Absolutely insane deal at auction, took a flyer and it really paid off. Very pleasant and well received by a group of Oregon Pinotphiles.

  Smoky orange red color with some browning at the rim and transparency throughout. Aromas of toast, dried cherries, and dry leaves with some mushroom and earth elements lurking. Palate is tart and earthy with tart cherry, smoke, leather, a hint of tobacco leaf, and an herbal spice quality that carries into a medium-long finish that carries some tea elements. The high toast barrel treatment is still in evidence here, but this is pleasing to my palate and showcases what I like about 1996 in Oregon - plenty of acidity to keep some of the red fruits going in the autumnal years of this wine. Drink or hold.

  Unfortunately past its peak, this is the 2nd simialr bottle I've had recently. Was much better in 2000 and 2001. Not much fruit left, with a bit too much acidity and tannins. The rough edges were less overt with food.

  Starting to fade already. Nice, subtle flavor of strawberry and raspberry, but a bit short. Much more mushroom than I'd expect from this producer, this vintage. Less interesting after about an hour.
