Ripe and mature black fruit that didn't quite come across as a typical Claudia's Choice (more tannins and less bright energy), but I guess that is 2003. Fairly robust and still nicely fresh, this was a bit drying to start on finish, but got bigger and more balanced once open 30+ minutes. Not the most complex vintage for Claudia's Choice, but still very enjoyable.

Drank over two nights, with and without food. 13.5% a.b.v. Color is quite dark. Initial nose was very acrid (like creosote and gin), there's a little fruit off in the distance, but it seems rather ripe. The nose seems more Rhone than Burgundy. Noticable alcoholic heat on the initial palate intermixed with very ripe fruit. The saving grace of this bottle is the well-balanced acidity and tannins on the mid-palate which really helped clean up and focus everything. The finish re-emphasized the alcohol with a little fruit on the back palate. Agree with earlier poster: this is a one-dimensional wine, no real depth or complexity. Went better with food than alone.

Ten Year Oregon Pinot Retrospective (02 and ealier) (Lou's): Somehow this snuck into the tasting. Ruby/purple in color. The nose is dusty with some cherries. Nice but simple. Sweet cherry fruit. Lots of tannins. Clipped finish.

Pleasant, one dimensional. Glad I only have one.
