Really Old Chianti (Sunfish Cellars): A small pour at a tasting served alongside a few others. The first bottle was like brett on steroids - some janitorial closet combination of fungus and industrial cleaners that got worse with time. Our host Mike graciously opened another bottle that was completely unflawed. About 1/4" of bricking. The nose on all these wines are spectacular. There is such complexity here, I've never encountered it before. They're also so delicate, so nuanced that you can almost miss it. They did all hold up for 1 hour in glass as we drank them. Dried tart cherry, earth, tobacco, leather is the most prominent smell and flavor.

Cocoa, truffle, red cherry aromas. Very pronounced aromas. Which is surprising. Lots of earth, red vitamin. On the palate, feather weight. Acid on a delicate frame. Very funky from the get go, give it some air to let it blow off. A beguiling nose, not unlike the the 7yr old Thivin Cotes de Brouilly Beaujolais 375 that strayed too far down the red vitamin nose. Flint. The cork seems new, but with an odd knobby cut on the inside bottom. Lake water, meaty palate, some tin-y notes. Just a whisper of nuttiness.
