I had low expectations given problems with so many 1996s, but no problems to be found here. Still showing plenty of apple, modest spice, but very good energy and minerality. Very good length. Color was still bright, fruit so fresh that if served blind I would have thought this 10 years younger.

Funky, earthy nose that pulls back to reveal baked pear and minerals. In the mouth, vibrant on the front end, with tart apple and baked pear fruit marrying nicely although standing in contrast to one another. Good acidity, then a turn to earth and spice on the tasty finish. A-

I was worried about premox, but this bottle proved to be very nice. It started out tight and grapefruity, but continued to open up with time and air. A nice balance of minerality and slightly exotic fruits. Drank the bottle over 2 nights and it was still tasty on night #2.
