Wonderful mature nose of cigar and cedar notes with some red and blue fruits. Palate is a bit lean and austere, but there's enough fruit here to enjoy. Moderate finish

I drank case of this in the spring and summer of 2019 & found it deeply unimpressive, all gooey fruit, like a southern Rhone. Oh, if I had my life to live over again, how I'd lay down Cabernet based clarets and watch them come of age over a decade and more. Two years later, this case is delicious--perfect, complex, old-school claret, like its big brother, Ch, Cantemerle, which I drank so much of in decades gone by. Plenty of fruit, saddle leather, barnyard, and complexity on the nose and the palate. Do let it breathe in the decanter for a couple of hours.

If you like Southern hemisphere Malbec or Rhone grenache, you might like this fresh, fruity, simple wine. But if you're a claret fan, don't touch it with a barge pole. It's nothing like the fine 2009 vintage of this wine or the many vintages of the first wine of this chateau that I have happily drunk over the decades. I have no idea what went wrong, but I'm now an ex-Cantemerle man.
To my taste, this is still pretty primary--lots of heavy fruit, with glycerin texture--and as yet none of the classic-claret barnyard, tobacco, and old-library nose & palate the 2009 offered. I expect all this will develop, but it's hard to discern on the horizon as yet.
