  • Surprisingly developed with some oxidation, a bit of a late harvest character with some botrytis and a waxy note. Lots of acidity and lime flavors as with many wines from this vintage, but not a lot of character or depth, epecially on the finish. Not as rich and long lasting as the best GVs from the Kamptal region in this vintage. Don't get me wrong, it is a good wine, but not among the most favorite wines of the vintage for my palate. - 90 points

  • Monday night Blinds at Nopa—Take 7 with TH (Nopa SF): Blind:
Medium lemon with hints of gold.
Earth-tinged nose with creamy peach, white mushroom, slight melon, waxy botrytis, slight orange citrus, slight rose petal, and a faint reductive rubber/skunk aroma.
In the mouth this is dry (maybe 2-3g RS or less), elevated alcohol (~13.5% - correct!), and a touch of phenolic bitterness. Persistent.

    Conclusions:
Old World style from a moderate climate.
    Semi-terpenic whites with phenolic bitterness:
Albarino: You wouldn't have botrytis on an Albarino, and the acid would be maybe higher.
Gruner: Could be, but I don't get overt vegetal character (to me, white pepper and radish).
Pinot Gris: Could be, but this is pretty dry and clean (not a lot of botrytis or oxidation) for a PG. I'd expect something of this quality level to be a bit less clean / more flamboyant, and to have a touch more RS.

Despite the lack of apparent vegetal character, I believe this is a Gruner Veltliner, from Austria, a Smaragd level (or reserve designation from Kamptal or Kremstal), vintage 2010 (I taste some development).

    Guess: Gruner > Austria > Smaragd > 2010
    Actual: Gruner > Austria > Smaragd > 2010

  • Klares Blassgold mit funkelnden Reflexen. Frischer, klarer Duft nach Citrus und Pfirsich. Angenehmes Säurespiel, noch jugendlich.
