Community Tasting Notes (20) Avg Score: 91 points

  • Deep yellow. Difficult to describe aromas. Full bodied, layered, and very textural. Nuts, apricot, and citrus in an off-dry package. Not nearly as herbaceous as many Gruner Veltiners. Excellent acidity and good soil on the finish. As usual, this varietal reduces my descriptive abilities to rubble, but the important thing is that this was really interesting and good! Big, rich, assertive wine.

  • A ripe, yet stony nose with star fruit, pea, celery, and brine. Rich, dense, and stony on the palate, yet with excellent cut. This is much more about mineral and stone than fruit. More star fruit, pea, grapefruit pit, and some ripe tropical (for GV) fruit, along with some apricot peach bitter notes on the back end. Quite stony, and soil more than fruit or veg driven. Very long. At peak with I suspect plenty of time in hand. This is certainly impressive, but richer than I would prefer, but that's my preference, this is a solid wine doing what it was intended to do. 91 for me, much more if you prefer this mode.

FWIW, this was outstanding with a fatty corned beef and cabbage.

  • Incredible texture and nose of dried and surprisingly still fresh tropical fruit, seashells, and lemon. Palate continues through with much of the same. One of the best gruners I've ever had. Really glad we have another bottle.

  • Interesting wine and in a good place at age 10, nice mix of savory and ripe tropical fruits on the nose, not quite saline but maybe a dried seaweed note, dusty powdery minerals on the nose, really good texture on the palate not unlike a lighter fresher northern rhone white , with again a nice ripe tropical and savory fruit coming through on the medium plus length finish

  • From 75cl, perfect cork. Exactly as recorded in my TN of 10.04.2016, no hurry. Shame this was my last bottle... 93-94P
