  • Loved this. Decanted 2 hours prior to heading out. Then decanted again at the restaurant in Napa. Perhaps about 3 hour decant all in, seemed about right. Got better and better.

Nice old world style just the way I like it. Would never tell this was a napa wine as the tannins were well integrated and it was soooo smooth unlike the crap fruit bombs they make now.

Togni punches way above its weight and this was a real treat.

Bought at the winery some years ago with my girlfriend who is now my wife!!

  • Richter Pre-Gaming Night (w/ some new world icons): This needed a bit of air but then it was firing on all cylinders. Highly complex, highly elegant and with a superb balance. A wow wine!

TN: Dark and dusty, herbal and with crushed rocks. With time better, purer and more precise. Very young on the nose and intriguing. On the palate very fresh, super precise dark red and dark fruit, licorice, some coffee notes, herbs. On the long finish there is a superb fine, fresh red fruit. Superb. Balanced, round, harmonious, fine tannins, superb tension. Very complete.

Decanting: I would go for 2 hours in the decanter.

  • Prelude to the annual Magnum Rarities Tasting in Zurich. Red and blue berries, underwood. Fresh, fine herbal dimension, a bit of smoke and black chocolate. The acidity along with perfectly integrated tannin together build a firm structure. Nicely aged, but lacks the precision and breadth for more.

  • This is the best example of how in a top vintage a wine which is usually a bit too rustic for my taste can marry the best qualities of the house style and california opulence. Suhch a great balance between the two elements. Some sous-bois but also dark berries and still feeling extremely young and dense. Love it!
