  • Deep gold colour. A lovely aroma of mature (but not elderly) chardonnay - creamy, lots of pastry and caramelised pear, a touch floral, with plenty of citrus. A lot of people talk about good aged champagne as resembling white burgundy, well this is the other way round for me - it smells like a 20-25 year old grande marque. Anyway, the taste is good: well integrated, with soft acidity, adequate fruit, and a slightly drying minerality. Truthfully, I'd prefer it if this had bubbles, but it's a very nice white wine, still in its prime. [Natural cork; 13.5% abv; Nickolls & Perks, £40].

(Jadot Louis Puligny-Montrachet Champs Gains) Gold. Buttery nose which is sweet and wide. Lovely acidity. Very concentrated, intense even in the finish. A ‘bigger wine’ than most of the 2001’s.
