  • Initially started fairly waxy and reticent. Didn’t have my hopes up. But a hour in the wine kicks off its slippers and showed us it was DTF. The salinity on this wine is incredible. Usually salinity to be has a bite but in this case texture wise its akin to a high sodium content water - it has a salty thick profile. Then an exotic citrus note that goes beyond the standard lemon medley with a gentle acidity. Wow what a wine.

  • Very shy at first, especially on the nose. With air this gorgeous curry powder note takes over the nose. Palate is extremely fresh and youthful, with great intensity.

  • Ganevat Mon Pere Vertical (Chambers): Soft, but not quite as soft and dainty as the 02. Loomi, nuts, saline a touch of beeswax. Very approachable, but with a relatively short finish. Accessible, but with a short finish.

    ABV: 13%
    Closure: natural cork
    Stem: Korin white stem
Decant: N/A; poped and poured and tasted over the course of ~5h
Extra info: from vines of Savagnin Vert planted in 1930, on the blue marl of the Chalasses site. Aged for 130 months a la ouille in old demi-muid and barrels after a press à l'ancienne and no racking of the must. A small amount of sulphur is added only at bottling
Vintage info from JF Ganevat: Quite similar to 1998 with a bit more light and sun. They had to wait a long time to get the right maturity. Grapes were picked on October 6th with a beautiful balance and a great pH. The wine was very balanced from the start. There were 2 bottlings in that vintage, one aged 130 months, the other 180.

  • Hanging Out w/ Burgundy & Jura (Weygandt Wines & Ripple): One of the best Jura blancs I've come across to date. Isaac described the salinity well, and what got me was the combination of the cool saline profile with some wonderfully mellow and deep floral notes. Touches of nuts, beeswax, and lemon were there too. The palate was an absolute freak show. Wonderfully smokey, nutty, and zippy citrus elements were woven together very nicely, but it had this 2nd layer of something akin to orange marmalade that was completely exotic, unexpected, and dazzling. What a wine!

  • A Spring Saturday in DC: What a cool wine. Color of dried honey with some spritz in the glass. Smells like my wetsuit after surfing in winter on the East Coast, with sea brine and jetty rocks and seashells all thrown together, and I love it. The acid rips across the palate, and the lemon seed and green melon notes are strong and complex, backed up by mineral, white tea and all sorts of green herbs and pickling spices. Not for the unadventurous, but I think this wine slays.
