  • Stunning. Deep, long, complex, oxidative qualities. This is really stellar white of great depth and complexity. Not an easy wine for those who don't expect it.

  • Ganevat Mon Pere Vertical (Chambers): Similar to the 08, very oxidative, rich, and powerful. Dried fruits, salted almonds, seaweed, a hint of iodine. Bracing acidity and an eternal finish. Very sherry like. It reminded me a lot some fino amontillados. Lots of comparisons to the first 08/07 flight where one was very oxodative and the other much fresher.

    ABV: 13.5%
    Closure: natural cork
    Stem: Korin white stem
Extra info: from vines of Savagnin Vert planted in 1930, on the blue marl of the Chalasses site. Aged for 130 months a la ouille in old demi-muid and barrels after a press à l'ancienne and no racking of the must. A small amount of sulphur is added only at bottling
Extra info: 130 months in demi-muid and barrels a la ouille with no added SO2.
Vintage info from JF Ganevat: Beautiful vintage; sunny but not too warm. Grapes of beautiful quality and great yields (37-38 hl/ha).

  • A private tasting (Buurtcafé De Tros, Amsterdam, NL): Marnes bleues, biodynamic viticulture, vinified and aged in demi-muid for 130 months (sic), ouillé and without addition of sulfur. Pale golden colour; incredible complexity on the nose, the depth and range of aromas is breathtaking, fruit from citrus via apple and peach to dried pineapple, fresh and honeyed, deep and spicy, touch of blonde caramel, salty wood; the palate is immensely concentrated with really big flavours, but the acidity provides effortless balance and tension, and the minerally energy is palpable; papery bitters guide the very long and complete finish. A spectacular wine of huge dimensions, but it never feels overpowering. Chef d’oeuvre.
