Kraters for the trenchermen (Les 2 Garçons): Much more primary than most of today's reds, though not unready. Spicy nose, full of concentrated dark fruit although with a hint of damp earth to provide interest. Inky deep plum on the palate and a lovely, grippy finish - yum.

Pop and pour. Fresh on opening but with air starts to show some smoke and extracted elements. Ripe wine best drink now.

Paired with grilled leg of lamb and burrata, spring pea and arugula salad. Worked perfectly. Big and rich but perfect balance to the rich fruits.

Very well made, hinting at modern in style, probably suffered in comparison with other wines served at this lunch.
