Family Winemaker's 27th Annual Tasting San Francisco, nose of minerals, black fruit, and pepper, same on the palate, medium/big body, tasty, touch simple, and a long finish.

Decanted for 1 hr and it benefited immensely. This muscular Zin, in the same league as Earthquake, will please those who like wines with character and complexity. Fruit and oak well integrated with a lingering spice box finish. Let it blow off its heat and you'll be rewarded. Great QPR at $15. Definite rebuy.

Decanted 90 mins. ahead. Very dark garnet color. Rich nose of black cherry, currant, white pepper, vanilla. Dark fruit leads the flavor profile, with black plums, blueberries, black cherries, in nice depth, along with chocolate notes. Acid balance is toward firmness though, which takes this wine out of the Fruit Bomb realm, though it is certainly rich. Finishes strong, as the richness carries through along with velvety and light but mouth-coating tannins. An extracted style of Amador zin, this wine could stand a few years in the bottle (but the screw cap makes me hesitate to age it). A totally worthy product at an over-perfoming QPR if you like big zins.
